Under the supervision of Noor Gulamussen, a PhD candidate working at both TU Delft and
at Eduardo Mondlane University, the students will evaluate the performance of a pilot plant
for effluent filtration which has already been constructed, but not tested. Additionally, the
treatment plant which is being investigated is currently undergoing renovation and
expansion. As such, an updated water balance will be made. An economic analysis will also
be conducted regarding potential applications, and local business owners will be surveyed to
gauge interest. Finally, stakeholders will be interviewed to gain an understanding of how they
might be affected by the diversion of water. In particular, there is a community of farmers
who rely on the effluent for the irrigation of their crops.
