Electric Tuktuks and female drivers Liberia

Location: Monrovia, Liberia |

Hello! We’re Julia Teunisse, Olse Peret, Tijs Nix and Bas Linde,

As part of our minor, we will stay in Liberia for 3 months to help Emergi, a company which employs female drivers to drive electric Kekehs, to transition the charging system for the Kekehs.

Currently, the Kekehs rely on the city's power grid, which often has long power cuts, making reliable charging difficult. We are going to implement a solar charging station which will be providing a reliable, eco-friendly charging solution for the electric Kekehs. This will reduce air pollution, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and support Liberia’s shift toward greener, more resilient energy systems.

Additionally, the project strengthens economic opportunities for female drivers by increasing their work hours and income, contributing to gender equality and economic empowerment.
