Karibu!
We are Max, Maud, Maurits, and Tjalline. Over the past month, we've been working on building a water well in Tanzania. Upon arriving in Misungwi, we got straight to work investigating whether there was actually water in the ground. After all, that's pretty essential for building a water well! A company from Dar es Salaam traveled to our location to test if and where water was present underground. Right next to the 'farmhouse,' they found a large water reservoir at 120 meters deep, capable of supplying enough water for the farm. Great news!
We were very excited and eager to start as soon as possible—just waiting on the invoice. That's when we hit our first setback: the amount was significantly higher than we had expected. Fortunately, with the help of an additional contribution from S4S, we managed to ensure our project could continue! We confirmed with the drilling company and agreed that they could begin drilling in Misungwi on December 9.
On December 9, we were eagerly awaiting their arrival. However, halfway through the day, we received word that they wouldn’t make it after all, so we’d have to wait until tomorrow. Kesho, which means "tomorrow" in Swahili, became a word we heard every single day for seven days straight. None of us were too happy about the delay. "Welcome to Tanzania," we were told—apparently, that’s just how things go here.
Today, the long wait finally came to an end. The truck from the drilling company safely arrived at the 'farmhouse,' and the drilling can now begin! They are officially expected to finish by the end of the week, although you can never be entirely sure here. We are thrilled that our water well is becoming a reality and look forward to the next steps in our project. We'll keep you updated with more news. Until then!
