This project is characterized by education for drop-outs made possible by innovative design. The education center, build from local raw materials, will be an example for future building projects.
New Abirem, Ghana: Team Ghana will build a facility for teachers and lecturers from the region where young people can be taught, this is an alternative to mainstream education. The young people at this school are known as "drop-outs" by various circumstances they no (more) can make the regular Ghanaian school system.
Ghana is a project team of 17 students from Delft, all of the association DSR Proteus Eretes, dedicated to the development, financing and construction of the ATC. Preparations are already in May 2011, the development from February 2012 and the construction will begin in November 2012. In late January 2013, the ATC should be realized.
What makes the ATC special is the way of building and the use of building materials. Team Ghana will use only manpower and small machines such as drilling machines, hand tools and cement mixers, so there will be no use of excavators. It will be built with local materials, like bamboo, clay, wood, where possible plastics, metals and concrete.
S4S will sponsor the ATC's innovative roof. This is a second roof over the construction of the ATC which is built from natural materials as much as possible. This roof will ensure a pleasant indoor climate in which studying is easier. Follow the developments of Team Ghana on their website: www.teamghana.nl
