The ‘urban poor’ living in slums located in the Philipines, and other places in Asia are more and more often victim of natural disasters like floods, typhoons and tsunamis. Floating platforms containing houses that the urban poor can rent at a very low price could offer a solution for these inhabitants, and also improve their quality of living conditions.
Within the ‘floating housing’ project, a company named Metabolic is responsible for the design of a functional unit. This part will control the flows of water, energy and waste within a cluster of four houses. This is where Spring Design comes in. The goal of the project is to select and synthesize excisting technologies in order to create a functional unit that fits the local context and its users.
