Due to the current political situation, the project to create a collective queer space in Istanbul has started more slowly than originally planned. During recent demonstrations against the actions of the current government, the rights to assemble and to freedom of expression have been severely restricted. This highlights even more the need for spaces that encourage interaction and self-expression.
In the initial phase of the project, the focus was on mapping available materials. To do this, various waste collectors were visited. They gather objects from across the city, sort them by material type, and then transport them to other locations for reuse.
The materials found will largely determine the design of the project. They bring both limitations and inspiration. To be continued!
