UPDATE I: Cooling chamber and solar dryer in Ghana

Sam, Yin Fei and Pepijn have been in Ghana over a month now. For the minor international Entrepreneurship and Development from the TU Delft and Delft Centre for Entrepreneurship. The project is going great, every day we are getting closer to a finished product!

With this post we want to take you with us on our approach on the project and tell about our key milestones.

In the first phase we wanted to get familiair with the place and people where we will live for three months. We have met the all the staff and the students and told them about our activities here.

Everyone was so enthusiastic and willing to help us.

The next phase was designing and building the cooling chamber. With the studentes we have worked out a design and chose the perfect spot. This will be close to the field so that the crops can be stored easily.
All the materials were sourced locally and we tried to make it as affordable as possible.

Some field testing with a prototype gave us insights on the cooling potential of around 10 degrees at peek!

Now the building can start, and we had plenty of help and more than enough hands!
It started by making the foundation. First we dug out the ground and poured concrete in it.

After a few days of hard work the foundation was finished and the roof was included.

The next step was making the frame for the charcoal, a lot of measuring and welding has been done and now we are almost done with it!

The plan is to finish the cooling chamber at the end of this week, so that we can cool down the crops and prevent losses in the future!
